The Baseball Writers of America elected Rich "Goose" Gossage to the hall of fame today, and while there isn't a huge argument against him what really stews my clams is the fact that Cooperstown thinks it's ok to be so over selective with who they let in and who they keep out
Did you know that NO PLAYER has ever received a unanimous selection (yep that includes all of the greats in Baseball)
Oh well, hopefully the Hall of Fame wakes up and decides that Cooperstown is a museum for the game and should not be some Valhalla of Baseball.
If a player holds any record they should be in the hall, If a player is in the top 5 of any career category they belong in the hall of fame. A player's personal life (such as off the field issues, drugs, etc) should NOT affect hall of fame voting. The only thing that should affect hall of fame voting is if the player is not as qualified as other players of the era. And that includes the steroid era. In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king, if everyone (approx 75% by some conservative estimates) was on the juice then the best of those guys deserve to be in the hall, If you can look at people's numbers who didn't have to play against African-Americans and say that those numbers are in no way tainted then you have to suck it up and say that the Steroid Era was just another era of the game and the best players of that era deserve respect .
